Adopting Slack as our messaging platform has changed the way we chat and share ideas around the lab. “This Week on Slack” is our ongoing experiment to surface the best conversations from around our office and share them with others in our community.
Early this week Bryan (from the design team) posted the riot-inducing article “Do We Even Need CSS?“. A few of our designers and devs jumped in to talk about style, CSS, and the application for us at GoKart. Here are the highlights:
Adam also went on to point out that the example in the article had a distinct “foul code smell.” Don’t expect GoKart to ditch CSS anytime soon.
On Wednesday Andy (from the design team) sent out a request for examples of rating systems. The conversation turned up a couple interesting examples, including HighFive, one of the new products we’ve been testing around the office.
For Reference, here is HighFive’s system:
And here is the paper Dr. Matt found on online communities and ratings.
This week everyone in the office was gawking at an awesome initiative Volvo began this year. MJ (The head of Creative Strategy) posted it to applaud Volvo for the unique partnership and strategic positioning around LifePaint. We were also interested because almost everyone here bicycles.
It didn’t take long for someone to riff on the LifePaint idea….
That’s all we have for today. If you thought this recap was a nice read, let us know in the comment! We’ll try to send out another update next week.
