“Too busy” should be a confession, not a boast

The irony in this week’s message is that I was “too busy” to finish the article I really wanted to write. It’s a horrible excuse, I know it. But, we’ve all used it, we’ve all (truthfully) meant it, so I’m using this opportunity as inspiration to reflect on something more meaningful.

As my business partner AJ Meyer says, “practice the art of the pause.”

Let’s face it, we’re living in the world of infinite distractions that give the illusion of being busy. At any given moment, we’re all a push notification away from reading/watching/commenting on something we care little about.

Sadly, it’s become “normal.”

But as we wrap up 2014, perhaps we can all find new opportunities to focus.

Hopefully this week’s collection of articles inspire you as they did me, helping you reflect on where (and how) you’re spending your digital time.

Below are some fun tools to help you see if you could use a digital break, and a couple solutions to help those that take one.

  1. Checky App – Find out how many times you check your phone each day.
  2. Moment App – Learn how much time you spend on mobile devices.
  3. Calm – Fit meditation into your daily life.
  4. Hum – If writing music is your escape (it’s mine), give HUM a try (also a shameless plug for a fellow GoKarter’s creation).
